A Guardian Angel and an Eagle Totem

I hope everyone has had a lovely holiday.  I just wanted to share the joy I found this year in making gifts for a couple people on my list, whom I love very much, but are typically hard to shop for.  So, what do you get for those people who have everything?

A Guardian Angel and an Eagle Totem are what I came up with for my in-laws this year.  It's so much more fun making art for people you know.  For instance, I already knew that my husband's stepmother loved blue glass so I started with a couple of my biggest, chunkiest pieces.  Oh, and an old dried up bottle of blue nail polish I found in an alley somewhere made the perfect angel face!   My father-in-law is a rugged, outdoorsy kind of a guy, so I started with my favorite pieces of rusty metal. (That sounds like a strange kind of complement, but you know how I love rusty metal :-)

The result…. works of art to guard over and protect you!  This is "Blue Angel Heart" and "Thunderbird Eagle Totem".  So much more fun than a gift card, right?

Peace in the New Year,

Jane

Concierge Bookmarks!

More graphic design for On the Edge Gallery, using artwork of gallery artists. (see my "Purple Prickly Pear" pastel, 2nd from the top on the front.)  This is a bookmark, front & back, designed for Phoenix & Scottsdale hotel/resort concierges to hand out to hotel guests.  It's a new program we're launching where hotel guests can come to the gallery, show us the bookmark and get a free art gift with any $10 purchase and the concierge gets 10% of everything that guests purchase from the gallery, as a thank you.  So if you're staying in a Scottsdale/Phx. resort this season, grab a bookmark, come on down to the gallery and get your gift, usually something original by one of our artists.  If you're a hotel concierge and want in, email me at jnassano@cox.net.  I'll set you up with your own personal code. :-)

Peace and happy shopping to all!

3 New Crosses That Would Make Great Gifts

I LOVE these, 3 new crosses I made from broken china and stuff somebody threw away! Wouldn't these make great Christmas gifts for the alternative spiritual person in your life?

Next week...Christmas ornaments!

Peace to all,  Jane

Two New Crosses

Hope everyone had a nice holiday. Here are 2 more crosses I just finished, made out of my favorite thing… rusty metal I found on the ground.  "Runner with Nails" $65 and Hanging by a… Rusty Spring" $55. Peaceful shopping to all…let the season begin!

A Great Christmas Gift...But, What's It Called?

Welcome to My Playground.jpeg

Last week I thought this piece would be a 'holiday wreath'.  I was going to call it 'Resurrection Wreath' because it is made out of rusty, broken and once buried things resurrected to a new life.  But my husband took one look at it and said that it looked more like Alice in Wonderland's Garden [of Living Flowers] or maybe of Dead Flowers? or Recycled Flowers?  There are rusty spark plugs, fuses, screws, bolts, nails and rebar and more than a few old nitrous oxide canisters, still colored brightly despite the rust.

Then as I was photographing it today it looked more like a playground with those little characters that sit on big springs so kids can 'ride' them…. Anyway, now I need help with a title.  What do you think it should be called?  Does it look like Christmas, Wonderland or a playground?  Or something else?  You can hang it on a wall like a wreath, or use it as a centerpiece on a table.  I'm going to get one of those circle things with wheels from under a microwave plate to put underneath it so it can twirl around when it's on a table.  You can still buy it no matter what it is ($150) and just call it a great Christmas gift!

Peace, Jane

New Crosses To Share!

Here are 3 new crosses I finished last week.  "Blue China" - 9" high, "Bleeding Heart" - 11" high, "Rise Up" - 12" high (not including top wire)...All $65 each. I love these. Trying to create enough for the Christmas season and it seems to me we could use all the help we can get, praying, right now!

Last night, however, I got cheered up by starting to create a 'found object' holiday wreath made from a rusty old flywheel and all kinds of things I've picked up off the ground. So excited about it that it's hard to get any of my 'real work' done.  Can't wait to get back to my flywheel and make it 'pretty'.  Pics to come next week!  In the meantime…. just breathe.

Advertising Season is Here! (But, next week I'm back to art-making...)

Well, it's advertising season right now in Scottsdale, AZ as businesses are prepping for tourist season. So, here's my latest ad I designed for On the Edge Gallery.  It's a 2 page ad where I designed the page on the right side, using artwork from gallery artists (see my "Flower Fairy Comes", bottom left) and the left page was designed by the magazine, Phoenix Home & Garden, with more work by gallery artists and copy that we wrote, but in an editorial format that matches other editorials in the section.  I think it came out pretty cool, but I'll be happy to get back to just making art again next week!  Check back then for more on my mantel clock!

Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine Ad

I just finished designing this full page ad for On the Edge Gallery, which will publish in Phoenix Home & Garden magazine's December issue, opposite an editorial about the Gallery, with even more images from our gallery artists. The double spread advertisement is one we do every year now, to promote On the Edge Gallery's local art/artists to the local homeowners and art buyers in the Valley of the Sun, just before the Holidays. So come on in, if you're local to the Phoenix area, and let us help you find some beautiful treasures to cross off your holiday shopping list!
