America the Beautiful
The paintings in this series were inspired by a summer long, cross-country motorcycle trip I took several years ago. My partner & I piled camping gear, cooking utensils, clothes & leathers into the saddle bags & the back of our brand new Indian Chief and off we went. I was lucky enough to ride on the back of the bike where I didn't have to pay attention to anything but the scenery. We took county roads & country byways, staying as far from big cities and interstates as possible. What a way to see the country! From beaches and prairies to curvy mountain roads, we took scenic drives in nearly every state. Ironically, I was in the middle of Kansas when I realized that the horizon was constantly beside me and ever-changing (well, maybe not so much in Kansas :-) That's when the inspiration for this series hit me. A study of horizon lines from all over the country. Luckily the horizon never disappears so I continue to create more works in this series I like to call "America the Beautiful".
