Here are the beginning steps to a new piece I'm working on...
First I cut 2 strips from a very thin sheet of textured, rusty metal (yes, that I found on the ground)
and formed the shape of a cross.
The metal will be the backdrop for 2 narrow pieces of decorative glass tile.
I scraped the backing off the glass tiles and painted them with copper paint.
The copper paint gives the tile a really nice glow from the front.
This is a broken piece of a larger glass tile, also painted on the back with copper.
Put it all together and you see where I'm going with this….
These are my inspiration for this piece. Antique salt & pepper shakers that were once part of a collection belonging to my favorite aunt, Patricia. I feel lucky to have them :-)
Laying the glowing glass tiles on top of the metal strips, add the birds and there you have…A Wing and A Prayer.
I will have to mount the whole thing on a backing of some kind, possibly wood, and I'm thinking of wrapping the glass to the metal with thin wire to keep it in place.
I can't apply glue to the copper paint on the back of the glass and expect it to hold...and yes, I'll probably straighten out the cuts on my metal :-)
Stay tuned for the final completion of A Wing and A Prayer!
